International women’s day is a universal celebration of all women, and their achievements throughout the years. A strongly inspirational woman is one who has had a monumental impact on the women of today’s society is Winnie Harlow.
Winnie Harlow, a model with vitiligo disease; a disease which causes colourless patches on the skin, has revolutionised the fashion and modelling industry. She was diagnosed at the age of four and grew up being ridiculed for a condition she cannot control as there is no cure. This led to her being bullied and labelled as a “cow” and “zebra.”
After years of enduring self-doubt, she decided to appear on America’s Next Top Model in 2014 and overcome and lack of confidence. Today, she has become the face of Desigual, walked for Prada and also was the first model to walk in New York fashion Week with her condition.
Winnie has become a world-wide symbol for diversification and has become a refreshing role model for all women and models, proving that we need to embrace our differences not be ashamed of them.
So ladies, remember to always embrace your differences because there is only one you. Your uniqueness is what makes you beautiful.
